The Modern Political Scene Part 1
In the past there have been two main political groups; the Republicans and the Democrates. In recent years however the two political parites were given new names, they were, the conservatives and the liberals. In my opinion there is not two new movements but multiple major political players. I will lay out the few sides that I am most fammilar with, the conservative/Republican side in this first article.
Republican
Today's Republican party is on the verge of "civil war". You have the social conservatives fighting the economic conservatives. This "civil war" started in late 2004 as Bush was re-elected and the moderates, or the conservatives, controled the party for four years, and were going to control it again for at lest four more years. This upset the social conservaties as they could not give much input in the Republican party. This is evident when one looks at Bush's stance on immigration. While the party itself is on the brink of "civil war" you still have the moderates and the liberal Republicans working to hold the party together. Also working to hold the party together are those of us, (myself included), who feel that we should go by one name and one name only, we are Republicans. We are holding what is left of our great party and want to continue leading. Leaders of the social conservatives are the following; Sam Brownback, etc. Leaders of the conservatives and liberal Republicans are the following; Mitt Romney, John McCain, George W. Bush, etc. Leaders of the Republicans are the following; Newt Gingrich, Tom Tancredo, etc. Republicans are divided on many issues, (mainly social), but are united on one thing, that America will be the greatest country in the world so long as we stand united.
Conservatives
The conservatives are much simpler to explain as really they are the Republican party but in my mind true conservaties are ones that agree with the following;
1. We MUST win the War on Terror which starts with winning in Iraq.
2. NO AMNESTY must be given to ILLEGAL immigrints
3. "God" should be kept in our Pledge of Allegiance, and the Ten Commandments should be kept in our courtrooms
4. We should listen to others opinions and formulate new opinions if we deem it necessary
5. We know that America is the best country in the world and will do anything to preserve it.
